General Consideration(Cont.)
The Chaconne is replete with chords which were obviously written for convenient execution by the violinist. These chords were played arpeggiated, in two pans or with the lowest notes given less duration than the higher. It is difficult to imagine how violinists of Bach's time, in spite of using a different type of bow, could play four voiced chords simultaneously with precision.
Bach always took great care in his notation, allowing no possibility of being misunderstood by the competent musician. Even so, many problems of interpretation remain unsolved, and some of them may never be adequately understood, as Bach left no indication of exactly how his works should be interpreted. Nevertheless, we can dispel this concern somewhat through analyzing the music and its structure, and by referring to the work of musicologists and available historical information.
